"What were you wearing?"
Survivors of sexual assault hear this question all too often. As if their choice of clothing was a cause of their incidence of assault. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and we hope to raise awareness of the myths associated with rape and sexual assault. A victim's clothing choice is never an excuse for an attack nor is it an invitation for unwanted sexual advances. We want to show as a society that this weak excuse for violence that has been wrongfully accepted in the past will not stand anymore. One should be able to wear whatever they want without fear of being raped. This exhibit features real stories of real survivors- including what they were wearing the night their assault occurred. |
